Week of April 13, 2025 - Palm Sunday and Passion Week

Rejoice, O people of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem!
Look, your king is coming to you.
     He is righteous and victorious,
yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—
     riding on a donkey’s colt. – Zechariah 9:9 (NLT)

"I am doing a new thing": This Sunday, April 13, is Palm Sunday, commemorating Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of the week of His "Passion", the culmination of Jesus' earthly ministry, leading up to the incomparable gift of His resurrection on Easter Sunday (April 20).
We have a full schedule of worship opportunities coming up this week (see below).  We look forward to seeing you at some or all of them!
Easter morning Breakfast: One of our church traditions is a full breakfast, starting at about 7:30 am in Etna, just after the Easter Sunrise service (which begins at 6:30 am on Sunday, April 20, in front of the church in Hanover Center). We welcome homemade muffins, sweet breads, breakfast rolls etc. to be shared at the Easter morning breakfast in Trumbull Hall at the Etna church.  Please have your baked goods to Trumbull Hall on Saturday, April 19, or by 6 am on Easter Sunday morning. This will allow us time to prepare them for serving. Thank you for your generosity and we look forward to seeing everyone on Easter morning!
Crafting Together: This long-running fellowship group meets this month on Monday, April 14, at 1 pm in Trumbull Hall. Bring a craft and enjoy the company of others while you knit, sew, or pursue some other way of making things.
Missions Committee Update:   “The sun never sets on the British Empire” was a true statement in the 19th and part of the 20th centuries. It is also true for the ministries supported by the Etna Baptist Church. We support 10 ministries—five in New Hampshire and five with a more global reach. Together, these ministries serve New Hampshire, North America, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. They provide, in Christ’s name and in His love, support to people in large cities and the remotest villages, in tropical regions and on high mountains, in prisons and serene campgrounds, during peace and bitter war, and to people in every situation in life. Quite remarkable! The servants we have come to know personify commitment, selflessness and love in the highest degree. Exciting and inspiring, surely. We thank you for your generosity to our friends who make miracles happen. Come see us! We will tell you more about each of them.

The committee also reminds us to mark our calendars for a visit via Zoom on Sunday, June 22, by Rick Schleup, Church Partnerships Manager for Compassion International, a Christ-centered, church-driven, and child-focused ministry.   The commitee will provide additional information closer to the event,  but we do encourage everyone to Google the ministry for excellent introductory material.  Also, if anyone currently sponsors a child via Compassion International, the Committee seeks your perspective and assistance in hosting the visit.  Please contact Ralph Puckett, Abby Fellows, or Janet Grecsek.
The Spring Etna Ladies Aid Rummage Sale will be held in Trumbull Hall, Etna, on Friday, May 2, from noon to 6:00 pm and on Saturday, May 3, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. $5 a bag after 11:00 am on Saturday.
Donations of clean, seasonal clothing, jewelry, and small household items in good condition will be accepted at Trumbull Hall from Tuesday to Thursday (April 29-May 1).
Please, no books, exercise equipment, electronics, televisions, computers, or large furniture items.
All the funds raised will be used to benefit the Upper Valley community and service organizations.
Editor's note:  the rummage sale is truly a don't miss event!
Bible Studies:  We offer three weekly opportunities for Bible study/discussion. We hope that you're able to join us for at least one them!
  • Our Sunday morning Bible discussion group meets at 9 am in Trumbull Hall. We're currently reading and discussing Scripture readings for the Lenten season.   Note that the group won't be meeting on Easter Sunday. The Sunday morning group will resume on the Sunday after Easter (April 27).
  • Our Wednesday morning Bible discussion group will not meet on April 16, but will resume the following Wednesday, April 23.
  • On Monday evenings this year, Pastor Chris is also leading a focused 1 Corinthians Bible Study group, serving as an adjunct to Pastor Chris's current sermon series. The group will not be meeting on April 14 or on April 21, but will resume thereafter.
The Etna Gospel Group played Unclouded Day in our worship service last Sunday morning.  If you missed it, or if you'd like to see it again, just click here to watch it via Youtube.  You may view the entire service on Youtube if you like.
